As Memorial Day approaches, we pause to honor the brave U.S. military personnel who gave their lives in service to our country. Originally known as Decoration Day, this national holiday began after the Civil War as a time to commemorate fallen soldiers and has grown to include parades, remembrances, and family gatherings across the nation.

Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer fun, and for many of us in Downingtown, Exton, West Chester, and the surrounding area, that means grilling with family and friends. As you spark up the grill for the first time this season, it’s also a great time to think about safety and make sure your home is protected—both physically and financially.

A few fire safety tips to keep in mind:

• Keep your grill at least 10 feet away from your home or garage.

• Always check propane tanks and connections for leaks.

• Never leave your grill unattended—and keep a fire extinguisher nearby
